Way back before my hair turned grey my bucket list* contained a medley of imaginary bedroom antics with hot French women, a Ferrari Testarossa (in red) and the chance to ride my mountain bike on an endless downhill. Fast forward twenty years, I sit up late dreaming about 1989 Ferrari’s on Autotrader, wondering just where you’d park such a thing when you live in a terraced house in the middle of a city. The bedroom antics now mostly consists of standing on Lego bricks and for too long the mountain bike action, like life, has been about racing around some field in the mud, not getting overtaken but not really doing much overtaking either. Every now and then you have Read More

Carry on up the Tamar By Steve Toze

What is adventure? Is it forgetting your iPhone and wondering how many missed text messages you’ll have when you get home? Is it driving through the arse end of Glasgow with your doors unlocked and a keg full of Bucky mead on the back seat? Is it telling your wife you spent three hundred quid on a brand new Niner Air Carbon and then hoping that she’s stupid enough not to see that this thing of beauty before her is actually worth ten times that and her husband is a lying, cheating bastard that spent their holiday money on himself? It’s by no means a secret that the Nutcracker XC Series was established as a vehicle for profit generation. So high were our expectations that we incorporated the Read More

Throwback Thursday – John Deacon Interview
Throwback Thursday – John Deacon Interview

This week’s Throwback Thursday is a really special feature. John Deacon (1962 – 8 August 2001) was a Motorcycle enduro racer. He had won several Paris Dakar Rally stages. He was a good friend to Shred back in the day as well as being a local legend in the Plymouth area.  He won the British Enduro four-stroke championship on ten occasions and won nine gold medals at the International Six Days Enduro event. He first contested the Paris-Dakar in 1997, becoming only the second British rider to finish the three-week, 7,000-mile event across Africa on a motorcycle. Within two years, and still funding his own participation, he claimed his country’s best finish of sixth, beaten by five riders who enjoyed substantial financial backing. The dangers of the sport were highlighted Read More
